Hello, my name is Chelsey and i’m 19. When i was younger i had a bad overbite and made me unable to close my mouth. Now i realized my chin is receded and it is causing me great insecurities. I don’t like how my chin looks receded when rested and normal when i’m smiling. It is as when i close my mouth my chin disappears.

Answer: Jaw or genioplasty Depending on circumstances, you may even qualify for jaw surgery. You have asymmetry in your jaw, along with chin ptosis. It also appears that you may still have issues closing your mouth? Do you have any difficulty eating or sleeping? How is your bite/do your teeth align well? I would suggest setting up a consultation with a craniomaxillofacial surgeon first, as they may be able to solve many problems. However, if you are just looking for something cosmetic, you are a good candidate for a genioplasty. This is a permanent procedure that allows us to pretty much put your chin in whatever position you like. You have a recessed chin, which can be brought forward and down, creating a stronger jawline and a more defined chin. This would help to improve your overall profile balance.

Answer: Options for Chin Augmentation: Which one is right for you? Hello, and thank you for providing images along with your question. Based on these images, you do appear to have a weak chin, making you a candidate for chin augmentation. Augmentation can be done using dermal fillers, which are injected to create a stronger chin, helping to balance your profile temporarily. Another option is a surgical chin implant, which can provide permanent results but also involves anesthesia and some recovery time. To determine the best procedure for you, I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with a reputable board-certified facial plastic surgeon. Such experts will have the skill, as well as artistry and knowledge of facial aesthetics, harmony, and proportion, helping you achieve the most natural-looking results. During your consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your facial profile, recommend the best procedure(s) that will help achieve facial balance, and ensure the best possible outcome.

Answer: Sliding genioplasty The photos show a very small recessive chin. The best treatment to balance your lower face is a sliding genioplasty. A chin implant is another option but with your amount of recession the genioplasty will give a more natural result. It will also improve your lower lip position and reduce the muscle strain when you close your lips.

Answer: Non-Surgical Chin Augmentation with Injectable Fillers -- Radiesse, Sculptra, Surgical Implants, See an Expert A formal evaluation would be needed to determine what's best. Many of my patients try to avoid surgery, so we perform a non-surgical chin augmentation treatment with injectable fillers. Fillers like Radiesse, Voluma, BellaFill as well as Sculptra are injected into the area, improving the overall appearance of the lower face and balancing the jaw and lip harmony. We use cannula injections to meticulously contour and project the chin, soften the chin along the jawline and improve the chin crease. Implants are still a great option once you are 100% positive that you are ready for a permanent enhancement. I suggest getting a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert; our practice is located right here in Los Angeles. Best, Dr. Emer
