Thanks for your inquiry, please ask your orthopedic surgeon when it would be safe. Each surgeon has different protocols. Good Luck.
From a physiologic standpoint you probably would be satisfactory to have liposuction within a couple months of total hip replacement. However, I would insist upon the approval of the orthopedic surgeon who had replaced the joint.
I suggest waiting 3-6 months or even longer after hip replacement, as the risk of infections is much higher if you are not fully healed. Although some will perform the procedure quickly after. Best, Dr. Emer.
Thank you for the question. Since the liposuction you are asking for is not in the area of the surgery it is not unreasonable to proceed as long as you are cleared by your orthopedic surgeon. I would also ask they make recommendations for the use of antibiotics not just pre-incision but also in the post operative period. I hope this helps. Best wishes.
I would ask your orthopedic surgeon what he or she believes reasonable time frames are as well as possible need for prophylactic use of antibiotics. Since what you describe should not involve the outer thigh I see no reason why you would need to wait any significant amount of time. You do need to follow all hip replacement precautions in terms of limiting flexion of your hips. If they are young being treated with liposuction is close to the area where the orthopedic surgery was done then six months maybe more appropriate. Before moving forward you should probably have consensus from both your plastic surgeon andBest,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
