Scar tissue visible under right nostril - is it possible to fix this? (Photos)

Question

Scar tissue inside ONE nostril? Anyone else ever had this near the septum nostril. I had rhinoplasty years ago but seen this almost immediately and it never went away. Is it possibly to get this fixed or would that be too risky? It feels loose inside.

The close-up photos show a small pale-pink tissue projection along the medial inner edge of one nostril, while the wider views do not reveal how deeply it extends. A photo cannot determine whether this is scar, redundant lining, a suture reaction, or another postoperative irregularity. Because it appeared soon after surgery and has remained for years, an in-person nasal examination, often with endoscopy, is the useful next step. If it is a limited scar band or mobile excess lining, conservative trimming or scar revision may be possible. Treatment should only follow a clear diagnosis because additional surgery in this area can create more scar, bleeding, a nostril notch, or narrowing. A facial plastic surgeon experienced in revision rhinoplasty can assess the tissue, septum, and nasal airway and explain whether observation or a small targeted procedure is safer. Seek earlier evaluation if it begins bleeding, ulcerating, becoming painful, producing drainage, or obstructing breathing.

That is a location where a "hemitransfixion incision" is usually executed to access the septum. That is likely scar of the anterior septum border. A properly trained plastic surgeon will be able to guide you through this process. I like to use a cone beam CT scan, ultrasound, and physical exam prior to making any recommendations. I would recommend seeing an American Board of Plastic Surgery certified plastic surgeon, ideally one who also completed an accredited Aesthetic Society fellowship or is a member of the society.

The scars inside the nose cannot be fixed. These are not visible easily and should be left alone. Sometimes fixing these scars can effect breathing.

Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photographs, this is likely deviated caudal septum and can be corrected with a revision surgery. Make sure you are going to a surgeon with hundreds of long-term before and after pictures on their website with standardized lighting and standardized backgrounds. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

First think that comes to my mind is injection of corticosteroid like Kenalog into the scar. Within 1-3 weeks you should see some change; if needed, another injection may be delivered in 3-6 week. Good luck.

If you're breathing well through your nose, and if this is not obvious on front view, it may be best to just leave it alone.
