It depends on the operation but often times sensation can return in a couple of weeks, a year, or not at all.  Nipple sensation itself is very important and can sometimes be lost with breast surgery. This is often mentioned in the risks of the consent process. I imagine your numbness is just temporary although I would have to examine you.Daniel Barrett, MD

Having 40% nipple erectile function at four and a half months is encouraging.  Over the next several months, it is possible that you may regain normal erectile function as swelling resolves.  

The nerves that supply the feeling and the ability of the nipple to become erect are not severed during breast surgery, but are stretched, and can malfunction after the procedure (neuropraxic injury).  It takes 9 months to a year for the nerves to repair themselves, they grow very slowly.  Be patient.Good Luck!

Loss of nipple sensation and nipple erectile function after these types of surgery can be temporary or permanent. The fact that you have some function at this point is encouraging and may indicate that the return of function will continue to improve over the coming months. Generally, whatever return of sensation and nipple function you have at about 12 months from your surgery will likely be the long term result.

Though a rare complication or postoperative sequela decreased N/A sensation after multiple surgeries occurs. If not improved by 18 months than must be considered a permanent side effect of the surgeries you had.
