How long do I have to wait between a Breast Augmentation and a BBL?

Question

I would love to get a Breast Augmentation and a BBL within the shortest timeframe possible but I read that you can't combine those two surgeries because of the recovery process like not being able to lay on your back with a BBL but also not being able to sleep on your stomach with a Breast Augmentation. So how long do I have to wait in between surgeries? And also what would you recommend to do first? A Breast Augmentation and then the BBL or the other way around? Thank you in advance!

Hello! Thank you for your question. Liposuction, BBL and Breast Augmentation with implants is actually a very common combination of procedures and it's proven to be safe. Not all Doctors advise not to lay on your back after a BBL, in my experience I've seen sitting and laying after a BBL doesn't alter results. I would recommend combining those procedures to avoid putting your body under surgery trauma twice in a short period of time.

Thank you for your question. A breast augmentation and brazilian butt lift procedure are often performed together. The pros of this decision is that there is only one recovery time and it cuts down on the cost as far as facility/OR and anesthesia fees since you are combining the two surgeries together. With my patients they are able to lay down like normal so it is not an issue to get the breast augmentation. Each surgeon is different so consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine the best plan for you and your aesthetic goals.Hope this helps,Dr. Newall

Hello NB18,A breast augmentation and a BBL are a very common combination of procedures. You should take advantage of getting into the OR once and do it all. There is absolutely no need to avoid sitting down after a BBL or lying back on the buttocks. I encourage you to have them done together. Best wishes.

Thank you for your question. These procedures are usually perfomed together. Combination procedures are safe and very effective in the right hands.  The surgeon has to be an expert in each procedure and must have a lot of experience in performing combination procedures.  Every surgeon will have his/her own preferences as to recovery for specific procedures. With Brazilian butt lift we transfer fat from one area of the body to the other.  These fat cells are transferred in microinjections throughout multiple planes in the buttock tissue so that they can gain new blood supply and live in their new home, providing increased volume and shape to the buttocks. The pressure caused by sitting is not sufficient to affect viability of the fat cells and so the postsurgical position depends basically on comfort and any other operations that have been performed.

It is possible to combine these two procedures, but if you prefer to stage them, I would recommend waiting at least 4-6 months. Seek a plastic surgeon who performs many of these procedures, has great reviews and photos, and is an expert in this field.

Hello and thanks for your questions.  I would advise you to separate these 2 procedures by at minimum of 10-12 weeks to allow for adequate healing, and preferably 4-6 months to allow for full healing.  The order is completely up to you - BBL has a much longer recovery period before getting back to full function 3-4 weeks vs breast augmentation which is 1-2 weeks.  I would encourage you to schedule a consultation and discuss your breast enhancement and BBL treatment options with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), who is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), and also a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) demonstrating their commitment to cosmetic surgery and excellence in surgery.  Assure that they have multiple before and after photos of results that you like so that you can have an informed discussion about your breast augmentation and BBL and possible results after a comprehensive exam.Best wishes,

There is not  scientific study to date that indicates that the transfered fat will suffer or be altered from  sitting down or sleeping on your back. You are right to separate the operations but you can do either one of them first and wait a minimum of 6 weeks in between. 
What might be the best way, not necessarily the fastest, but If you do the BBL first and wait at least three months then if you need a lipo touch up you can have it done at the time of your breast augmentation.
