Surgical scars can become red, hypertrophic, inflamed, and thickened. In our office, we use a combination approach that includes pulsed dye laser, Plato's Scar gel used twice daily, fractional laser, and Kenalog IIT to reduce the scar. Topical therapies are great first-line therapy. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianRealself100 Surgeon
Yes definitely. I have my patients use the same silicone scar gel. The addition of tape isn't usually necessary, but if it's in a high tension area or is starting to become thick, itchy or red, I will use silicone tape as well. Please have your surgeon monitor your incisions closely over the next several months.
Dear ejrpjr, every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Great question. The only problem would be the tape not sticking because the Skin Medica gel may prevent that. If you can get it to stick go for it because it can only help.
Check in with your plastic surgeon for his recommendation. Every surgeon has his or her own protocol in regards to scar management.

HI. I hear your concerns. I do place much faith in the Vectra imaging system. I feel that it's more of a marketing tool than a fair reproduction of an eva;uation. It should never take the place of a plastic surgeon's experience nor decision making. Interesting enough, you state "I selected ...
First you are doing two good things. You are paying attention to symptoms and you are following up with your doctor. Popping can happen from time to time after surgery as scare tissue forms and matures. Sometimes a small band of scar will tear or just pop over your chest wall or implant. If this...
Dear Jess, Many thanks for your question. The question I have for you is if you are not having any problems or issues with your current implants, then why are they being changed? Just because an implant is 10 years old is not an indication to change them. The more often you change/interfere...
You are still very early in your recovery, however, without an in-person examination, it is impossible to determine if anything abnormal is developing. It is important that you are following your surgeon’s post-operative instructions to ensure the best results. We recommend scheduling a follow u...
