Good day and thank you for your question! The term “gummy bear” is often used interchangeably as a name for “cohesive silicone gel” — an increasingly common material used to fill certain breast implant shells available on the market today. Like actual gummy bears, cohesive silicone gels will hold their shape outside the body, even if cut in two. While soft, the material is neither liquid nor fluid. All Mentor implants use cohesive silicone gel as their filling, so all Mentor implants are in fact “gummy bear” implants. Other manufacturers do market cohesive gel implants, however, so you have multiple options if this is the type of implant you are considering. I hope this information helps you. For more information and a personalized recommendation, find a board-certified cosmetic surgeon in your area and schedule an in-person consultation. Good luck with your procedure!- Carl N. Williams, Jr., MD
All Mentor silicon gel breast implants are made of cohesive silicone gel. The term gummy bear refers to textured cohesive silicone gel breast implants. However because all Mentor silicone implants used cohesive gel the term gummy bear is often used to refer to both textured and smooth silicone gel implants.
Mentor is the company name. They make the gel ( cohesive gel) as well as saline implants. Excellent company as I have been doing business with them for 30 years.
