I found a double board certified doctor who was rated the top doctor in the state, and I feel very comfortable with them and their work. They told me they would be able to rasp a bump I have on my right side which can be seen in certain angles. I love my nose, but after injuring it many years ago it’s raised on one side. I have thought about this for years, and hope it will look natural. Do you think they will be able to maintain its shape with in office rasping for the one side?
Answer: In office nasal bump shaving Yes, if done correctly a small nasal bump can be shaved easily in the office under local anesthesia. It should not effect the remaining nose. However, some small bumps might not respond enough and in those cases you have to do a full rhinoplasty. Regards Dr. J

Answer: Rasping vs. Reduction with Osteotomies Thank you for your question. For me, looking at the provided photos, I think a more traditional dorsum reduction with osteotomies would give you the look that you want. Rasping the dorsum may actually make your nose look too wide in that mid portion. If the nasal bones are uneven, that is another reason to look at a standard rhinoplasty as your best option. Make sure you get a few opinions from experienced, Board Certified surgeons.

Answer: Just rasping the nose Hi, rasping can improve small bumps. For larger bumps, you have to shave and adjust the bones. The surgeon would need to decide this during the surgery. In your case, the bump might be small enough to improve with just rasping. However, in your interests, the final outcome is the main goal, not to have the bump, the technique to get there should be secondary in consideration.

Answer: Nasal rasping Thank you for your question. In general, for small bony deformities, rasping works great. It shouldn't change the shape of the tip or other structures. I hope that's helpful, and all the best to you.

Answer: Will I be able to maintain my nose shape with rasping? Every nose is different and unique to that individual. If the appearance of your nose concerns you enough to do something about it, it can be improved with a natural artistically performed rhinoplasty or possibly just rasping the bone . What would be the best option and exact procedure would depend on an examination and discussion about desired outcome. Excellent results can be achieved with either a closed or open technique. Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you exactly what to do based on limited photos without examining you, physically feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best interest. Natural appearing results need to be individualized and what is appropriate for one patient is not necessarily the best for someone else. I would suggest that you find a surgeon with extensive rhinoplasty experience certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and one who is ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, M.D., FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Minimal surgery It is always difficult to discuss about very subtle deformities like yours, without in person consultation. It appears that reshaping (rasping) may be quite sufficient to correct your problem. Good luck.
