Hello, 3 weeks ago, I had an otoplasty (ear pinning) surgery. I am mostly happy with the results, however I feel that my ears still protrude on top a bit. I would like opinions on my results so far. Will my ears flatten closer to my head once more swelling and bruising go down over time? I've attached before and after photos. The photo taken in the car is today, 3 weeks post surgery. The photos taken indoors was me before I had surgery.
Answer: Results 3 Weeks after Otoplasty Yes, your healing will continue for another 6 months or so and you will continue to notice changes. Having said this, it is unlikely that the early imperfections will resolve over time. Discuss your progress with your surgeon. Revision surgery should really not considered or planned for at least another 6 months.

Answer: Should I Get My Otoplasty Surgery Revised? What a great question. I believe this is the same question that every single person who gets an otoplasty asks within the first month after surgery. The amount of time it takes to get the final result of an otoplasty depends very much on the surgical technique employed. Was the mustarde stitch done with permanent or dissolvable suture? Was the stenstrom technique utilized? Was the Furnas suture anchored to the periosteum or just the subcutaneous tissue? As you can see, your question is a very complex question that can only be answered by the Board Certified plastic surgeon who did your surgery.Normally, it takes about six months to see the final result. Between now and six months, you should look at all the positive improvements that the surgery has produced, and give both yourself and your surgeon a break.

Answer: Otoplasty revision Do not think about revision of the otoplasty for at least 3 months. The ears take a while to settle down. After 3 months review your ears and keep in mind that it is not attractive to have ears stuck to the skull. Normal ears do have some protrusion of 15 to 20 degrees. RegardsDr. J

Answer: Otoplasty Revision At 3 weeks, there are still some changes and likely some relaxation depending upon the technique used that may occur. Certainly discuss this with your surgeon who may be able to better guide you as to what you can expect in the coming months. Good luck! David Sarcu, MD

Answer: Otoplasty revision Hi! Thanks for your question. 3 weeks is still a bit early to determine what the ultimate result will be. If you have residual asymmetry or prominence after 3-6 months, you can discuss the possibility of a revision with your surgeon. Ear reconstructions are challenging. Relaxation of the setback is common early on after the repair. No 2 ears are perfectly symmetric. You will need to weigh the risks and benefits of the performing a revision vs. leaving it alone and excepting the asymmetry/prominence. Be honest with your surgeon and express all your concerns. Give it a little more time. Good luck!
