If you are looking for a plastic surgeon for your child, look no further. Dr. Ruotolo is the best all around. We met her during prenatal consultation for our baby girl who would be born with a bilateral cleft lip and cleft palate. Dr. Ruotolo was calm and listened to and answered all of our questions. She visited my daughter in the hospital the day she was born. She always answers questions and never rushes us during any appointments (office visits, pre-surgical appointments, post-surgical follow-ups). She has performed 3 surgeries with exquisite results (bilateral cleft lip repair, soft cleft palate repair, hard cleft palate repair). What sets her apart from other surgeons is her prompt communication with families immediately after and in the days following surgery. She is responsive to calls and texts, and this truly puts a parent’s mind at ease. Our daughter is now 5 years old, and Dr. Ruotolo continues to answer all questions during appointments and whenever we reach out to her. As our daughter moves into the next phases (preparation for bone graft surgery), Dr. Ruotolo continues to amaze us with her collaboration and communication with other professionals on the cleft team. She truly is a top-notch professional who not only cares for each child and family, but delivers amazing surgical results. We cannot thank Dr. Ruotolo enough for her attention to detail, professionalism, communication, and grace throughout all phases of our daughter’s transformation.
I just want to start off by saying that Dr. Ruotolo is the most amazing human being I have ever met in my life. This woman is the most caring and kind hearted person in history, and definitely needs to be recognized as such. I came to her at 20 years old wanting a bilateral otoplasty procedure, and from the moment I stepped into her office, I immediately felt comfortable. The staff were so wonderful and welcoming. I didn't have to wait long at all before I stepped into the consultation room, and that is where I saw Dr. Ruotolo. She came in with a positive energy, and told me exactly what I needed to hear. She answered all of my questions in a professional manner while reassuring me that everything was going to be okay. I was very nervous but she kept me very calm and comfortable; I immediately knew that she was the person to help me gain my confidence back. The surgery had gone as perfect as I had hoped, and as perfect as she had told me; with a very easy and painless recovery. If I had any questions or concerns post-surgery, I knew I could count on her to help me. As mentioned above, her staff is very fun, welcoming and all of them are amazing people. They were with her and I every step of the way in changing my life, and I can't thank them enough. I have never seen or heard of a doctor that can match her precision, enthusiasm and compassion for her patients, as well as her job. I am now confident in myself and happier than I have ever been before. Definitely 10/10 recommend. Thank you again for changing my life, Dr. Ruotolo.
IF your keloid formed from an ear piercing, I strongly advise against re-piercing your ears. You can wear very nice clip on earrings that look identical to real earrings. I have seen multiple patients who have been keloid free for years, and then decide to re-pierce their ears, and the keloids recur. It just isn't worth the risk.Good luck!
There appears to be extensive bruising, that with time should improve. It is difficult to tell for sure from pictures, but I would see your surgeon so that he/she can evaluate your progress in person and make definitive recommendations.Good luck!
The right side repair looks good, but the left could use some improvement. I would suggest seeking consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. Scar revision can be done in the office under local anesthetic. Revision is likely to improve the appearance of the scar, making it look more like the right side.Good luck!
Suture exposure is not unusual following otoplasty, since permanent sutures are used for the reconstruction. 12 years following surgery is certainly safe to remove that suture that is exposed. Your reconstruction is no longer dependent upon the sutures for stability. Seek consultation with your surgeon or another surgeon experienced in ear reconstruction to remove that exposed suture. After removal, you should have resolution of symptoms and it should heal quickly.Good luck!
3 weeks is still a bit early to determine what the ultimate result will be. If you have residual asymmetry or prominence after 3-6 months, you can discuss the possibility of a revision with your surgeon. Ear reconstructions are challenging. No 2 ears are perfectly symmetric. You will need to weigh the risks and benefits of the performing a revision vs. leaving it alone and accepting the residual prominence if present. Be honest with your surgeon and express all your concerns. Give it a little more time. Good luck!
