What can I do for a lipo seroma that has come back? (photo)

I”am 2 months post op from lipo and I immediately gotten a seroma in my lower back. A drain was put in for about 1 month and and 2 weeks and they recently removed it because it was supposedly closed. Before they removed it they injected it with doxicycline to seal the wall. Now I have fluid again he stated I didn’t need another drain that my body will absorb the fluid. It’s huge and my back hurts what should I do. Can it mess with my spine. And would I stay with a huge hard bump on my back

This is an unusual complication from liposuction. I would recommend your surgeon to aspirate it in the office several times times a week. A drain can cause irritation and fluid build up. Make sure you wear a tight compression garment.

Hi, and thanks for your question. I'm sorry to hear that you've had issues with a persistent seroma after liposuction. These don't happen often, but can occur. It is hard to give an appropriate recommendation based just on a photograph. 
A physical exam would be needed, and possibly some imaging (ultrasound or even CT scan) to discover the scope of the problem. A seroma is unlikely to cause spinal issues, but they certainly can be uncomfortable. Sometimes seromas need serial aspirations, or even replacement of drains. Continue to follow-up with your surgeon so they can track you over time. If you don't feel like your issue is getting the attention it deserves, you could always try looking for a Plastic Surgeon in your area to give you a second opinion. Best of luck!

This is an unusual problem following liposuction but can occur. At this point, serial aspirations may be the best solution. If there is more than a nominal (30cc or so) amount of fluid, you want to remove the fluid.
