Yes, you can have liposuciton if you have a fatty liver, but you need cardiac clearnace anyway (in my opinion) for anyone under going general anesthesia.. You need a formal evaluation by an expert in body shaping and contouring to determine what is best. Traditional liposuction awake and smart liposuction are old methods and do very poorly for tightening skin or significant skin tightening or contouring. Small problem areas can be improved slightly by these methods. The best in body contouring not only removes fat with energy devices like VASER ultrasound but also internally heat the skin with radiofrequency devices such as J PLASMA/RENUVION, InMode BodyTite, ThermiRF to heat the under surface of the skin and tighten it at the same time as fat removal. These combinations are called 4D HIDEF VASER contouring and can only be done by a well-trained body contouring specialist. At the same time fat should be harvested, PRP and stem cells added and injected into muscles or indentations/cellulite to get body shaping and contouring. This is known as a Brazilian Butt Lift when you inject the fat into the buttocks for contouring and lifting, but fat can also be used in areas such as the chest/breast, arms/shoulders, calves and face. Cellulite should also be treated with cellfina, sculptra, subcision and/or fillers such as bellafill, renuva synthetic fat, or sculptra. If skin is very loose before surgery then it will need to be removed such as lower abdominal skin (tummy tuck/abdominoplasty), breast skin (breast lift), arm skin (brachioplasty). Overall you need a full assessment, but simple liposuction alone will not tighten skin and needs a combination of various methods -- fat removal, skin tightening, defining, fat grafting, skin removal -- to get the best in body contouring and body sculpting. A thorough medical evaluation and labs to assess liver fuction is essential and medical check up is the key. The lipo itself is easy to do as well as choosing medicines for sedation. If the liver function is compromised then it is not worth the risk to have issues such as lidocaine toxicity which could happen with compromised liver with large colume lipo. In my 20 year experience of performing lipo and in our center for 40 years we handle all cases individually to get safest and utmost best results.
yes you can have liposuction if you have fatty liver. In fact, large volume liposuction helps to lower your total body fat and lipids, which will help. Fatty liver by itself is not a contraindication to having surgery, as long as your general liver enzymes and other medical conditions are OK to have general anesthesia.
Jane. Any medical issues should be evaluated and monitored by a medical doctor prior to any elective cosmetic procedure, including liposuction. I am certain that your board-certified plastic surgeon will require medical clearance before your surgery to be certain that it is safe. Having said that, if you are medically clear, there should be no reason why you cannot have your liposuction. Good luck!
Dear janetrod,it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Some patients with liver disease may still be candidates for liposuction. The most important thing is to have a thorough review of your medical history and medications as well as appropriate pre-operative testing and evaluations by your medical doctor or liver specialist to make sure you are healthy enough to undergo safe surgery. Liposuction is considered elective cosmetic surgery and should not take priority over your health and safety. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MD Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon
