My nose was originally straight with no hump. After an injury that caused my nose to deviate, there is now a bump on my nose bridge. Is it possible that straightening the nose will also correct the hump?
Answer: If you have a hump on only one side of the it is more because the nose is crooked Patients often comment that they only have a hump on one side of the nose, or that it's bigger from one side. This is more from the nose being crooked. People rarely see an actual profile. Left and right profiles are usually the same, but what patients interpret as different profiles are more from the nose being crooked. This is demonstrated in photographs from a 3/4 view left and right. Now back to your question, your nose can be straightened with or without shaving a bump. I find a personal consultation with computer imaging from multiple views (see above) will help address your question more completely.

Answer: Rhinoplasty Candidate Yes, your nose could be improved with rhinoplasty, which would give permanent improvements and can improve both a hump and asymmetry. When you meet with a facial plastic surgeon, he or she will consider your nose in balance with your other features. You can bring some photos of noses that you think would be flattering to your face and these can be discussed. I hope this helps.

Answer: Can straightening a crooked nose also correct hump? Both the hump and the nasal deviation can realistically cosmetically improved with a natural appearing artistically performed rhinoplasty. Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you exactly what to do and technically how to do it based on limited two dimensional photos without examining you, physically feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best surgery. Natural appearing results need to be individualized and what is appropriate for one patient is not necessarily the best for someone else. I would suggest that you find a surgeon certified by the American Board of American Plastic Surgery and one who is ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or facial plastic surgeon (otolaryngologist) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, M.D., FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Nasal evaluation Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. A crooked nose and dorsal hump can be corrected at the same time safely. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
