Dissolving Juvederm, should I go to a different injector if I don't like the results from the last?

Last Monday I got juvaderm to one side of my face to achieve symmetry , my injector filled me with 2ml of juvadeem around cheekbone, tear trough & nasoblial lines. 1 week on 8 I don't like the results.I have an appointment with him in a week . I was wondering should I go to another injector or use the same to get it dissolved? Pls help me I am so depressed. The area that concerns me is the tear trough and nasoblilal lines as they are too puffy. He is a certified plastic surgeon working for spire

Ideally it's best to wait 6-8 weeks for the filler to settle in before you reverse it. Every patient is different and results may vary after all of the swelling and bruising has subsided. You may like your results if you give it a little time, but if you are still unhappy, your provider most likely can reverse the filler successfully.

Keep in mind, it can take 1-2 weeks for final results with Juvaderm. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can go to your original injector or to a cosmetic dermatologist to have it reversed with hyaluronidase. It can take a series of treatments. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry that your current results have not been what you anticipated.  Swelling after filler placement is not uncommon, which can result in a puffy appearance to the tissues.  This swelling, and your results, will steadily improve over the next 10-14 daysas the filler softens.  Allow your results more time to matue and in the meantime try reducing the swelling by using cold compresses to your lips and elevating your head at night with a couple of extra pillows behind your back.  You may want to also consider using Arnica Montana and bromelain as supplements.  If after two weeks you still do not like the appearance, have your injector dissolve the area.  Hang in there!

If you go elsewhere, there will be a cost to dissolve the filler. The tear troughs are not a good place to place Juvederm because it often leads to chronic edema, just what your are talking about. I would give the clinic one shot before moving to another provider. I use Restylane for the tear troughs.

It can take up to two weeks for the swelling to resolve after the placement of the filler. I would wait and see if the area improves in that time. In terms of who you want to follow up with that is up to you. Most physician will work to correct an area if you are unhappy.  I would speak to  your injecting physician in one week at your follow up appointment.

Thank you for your question.  It's difficult to make an exact diagnosis or recommendations without assessing you in-person or reviewing your photos.  Generally speaking, it's not uncommon to experience swelling after filler injections for up to 14 days after treatment.  This swelling can make your skin look puffy, particularly in the tear troughs, and it's impossible to assess your final results until all of the swelling has resolved.  I would recommend waiting at least 2 weeks before following up with your plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns and possibly dissolving the filler (if it's still needed).  I think it's generally best to return to your original injector to discuss for follow-up - I know that I myself and most of the doctors I know would appreciate the opportunity to address their patients' concerns and make sure that they are happy with the results of their treatments.That said, while Juvederm can be an appropriate choice for injection into the cheeks and nasolabial folds, it really isn't an ideal product for the tear troughs.  This is because Juvederm has a tendency to absorb water from surrounding tissue with time - this doesn't pose an issue when injected beneath the thicker skin in the cheeks or nasolabial folds, but can cause delayed swelling under the eyes or the tear troughs (sometimes even years after treatment).  Generally speaking, products like Restylane, Belotero, Volbella, or Vollure are better choices for this area.  Best of luck!
