Type 1 Diabetes, Hba1c & breast augmentation. What is considered an acceptable hba1c?

In my practice, your Hemoglobin A1C needs to be 7 or lower. Above 7, you are still having elevated blood sugars which may interfere with healing and make you more prone to infection. I would suggest discussing this with your medical physician. also, surgery is stress and you may run even higher blood sugars than normal.

I like to be very cautious with my patients who have other medical concerns. I strive for a HbA1C of 7 or lower. Ideally, I like something around 6. Poorly controlled diabetes makes you high risk for both infection and poor wound healing as well as capsular contracture, complications that typically are very low in a standard breast augmentation. Have a discussion with your board certified plastic surgeon about this, and also consult with your Primary doctor or endocrinologist to help optimize you for the best result possible.
