Botox to treat Gummy Smile Correction (Effects of Repeated Administration)

Botox injections can be used to reduce the appearance of a gummy smile.  Make sure to have a consult with an expert injector; only small amounts of botox should be used.  Too much botox can cause the lips to drag over the teeth and reduce teeth show too much adversely affecting the smile.  Long term, with repeated injections there can be an increased duration of response; however, with cessation of injections, there will eventually be return to previous function.

Botox is frequently used to help soften the appearance of a gummy smile. Because the effects of the treatment are temporary, repeat injections are necessary to continue the result. Typically Botox will gradually wear off over three to four months. The treatment can be repeated as needed.
