How Many Lymphatic Massages Are Recommended for Post Op Tummy Tuck and Lipo? 1/day Too Much?

Question

Im 1 week post op from a lipo, tummy tuck and breast lift. I'm currently doing frequent visits with a massage therapist to have lymphatic massages done, every day to be exact, my swelling is quite a lot. Is one massage a day too much? I travelled to get my surgery done, so I'm doing as many as I can. So will a massage a day benefit me? Should I do less or more?

Thank you for your question. While many plastic surgeons believe that lymphatic drainage message after surgery can help with swelling, there is a wise range of opinions and use of this. You should ask your plastic surgeon for his specific recommendations in your case.

	I personally think that lymphatic message is helpful in reducing the swelling and speeding the recovery. However, I do think that there is a point of diminishing return. Every day to me seems a bit excessive. I suggest for my patients to be treated twice a week, which seems to work quite well. Of course, the best treatment for your swelling is time.

Hello,

	Thank you for the question.  Lymphatic massage is something that is not completely agreed upon since what constitutes lymphatic massage, how it's done, how often it's done, when its started, and which patients are candidates for it is variable.  My philosophy is that if it feels good an you think it's improving your results than in moderation it may be a good thing.  Once a day seems a little too much for me but you will have to decide that on your own.
