Can lumps postop facelift be injected with Kenalog?

There is no exact time. Steroids can be used to soften from tissue. I would usually wait about 2 to 3 months after the operation. Steroids can affect the healing and the results if used soon after surgery. Earl Stephenson Jr MD DDS FACS 

The healing process in general can take up to one month for the majority of swelling to subside, incisions to close, sutures to come out, and for bruising to completely go away. #Recovery time from a #facelift varies from person to person, but patients can generally expect to be presentable within three weeks from surgery. Patients should expect swelling, bruising, and discoloration of the skin during this phase of recovery (swelling normally goes down after 48 hours; most bruising will go away within two weeks). Some degree of firmness or lumpiness under the skin is normal after surgery and will resolve with time. Local #massage of the areas may accelerate the resolution of this problem, which normally takes 2-4 months to disappear completely.The marks from a facelift can easily hidden with “camouflage” make-up which you can learn how to apply. The scars from a facelift mature within six to twelve months from the surgery date. It is during this time that the rejuvenating effects of the facelift will become apparent and the real result will be seen. Most lumps and bumps from swelling will resolve with time. Steroids are double-edged sword and one must be careful when using them to hasten the healing process.

Lynn, I would wait 6 to 8 weeks before any injections. Try to massage it first. If you get it injected I would start slow (diluted) and see how it responds.

Lumps and irregularities are to be expected after a facelift.  No treatment is without risks.  The risk from injecting Kenalog include thinning of the overlying skin, fat atrophy and development of spider veins over the skin.  If used it should be used in a dilute form and judicially.   You can use either Kenalog 10 or dilute Kenalog 40 with either saline or Xylocaine.

It is reasonable although not usually necessary to inject Kenalog into persistent lumps following a facelift. I usually advised waiting  at least 6-8 weeks to allow the body to heal on its own before considering Kenalog. I use Kenalog 10 if needed. If too much steroid is injected it can create contour abnormalities.

Most lumps after facelift resolve with massage but complete resolution can take a year.I would be very cautious about injecting Kenalog into lumps beneath the skin after a facelift.  NextIn my experience (32 years) I have never injected Kenalog into a lump beneath a facelift.  This is because Kenalog may help dissolve a lump but it can also dissolve your normal fat beneath the skin and result in a depression where there was once a lump.Have your plastic surgeon make certain that there is no hematoma or blood beneath the skin causing the lump.
