Is it safe to combine a facelift and brow lift with liposuction? 43 year old healthy male who is fit physically.

In my opinion and in my practice, I will only perform a facelift and will not combine with other procedures. The reason is safety as doing a proper facelift involves around 6 hours in the operating room. Trying to add liposuction, as posted in your question, is too much time under anesthesia. I advise patients to decide which procedure is their priority and start with that surgery, then return for the second surgery. Health and safety come first!

Your plastic surgeon should know approximately how long they take to perform a facelift and a brow lift. Most surgeons like to complete a procedure within six hours to maximize patient safety and to minimize complications. If both of your procedures that you desire can be completed within this timeframe, then there’s no reason that you can’t add the liposuction of your abdomen at the same time. Have a discussion with your plastic surgeon to be sure you’re both on the same page. Best wishes.

Hello, hope you are well. The short answer is 'yes', it should be safe to combine these procedures. We actually do this quite frequently in our surgical practice. It also saves you from requiring multiple anesthesia events and lessens your total 'down time.'

Generally, your risk for complications increases after your surgery length exceeds 4.5-5 hours. Although there are some surgeons who can do a facelift and browlift in less than this amount of time, many will take that whole time for just those procedures. With all the movement involved in liposuction, it would generally have to be done either before or after the face procedures, not simultaneously, so this additional procedure would add to the total surgery and anesthesia time. Therefore, it is possible to do the liposuction during the same surgery, but given the unnecessarily increased risk for complications in these elective procedures, I would not recommend it. Providing that you are in a good health and your surgeon can do all of these procedures within 6 hours or so, that is quite acceptable. It is in your best interest to discuss this plan with your surgeon and follow his/hers suggestion. Good luck.

It is certainly safe to have those procedures combined. It sounds like you are far too young to get a facelift even without seeing photos, but it’s your choice

Yes. In my opinion, it is quite reasonable to combine those procedures. It's often recommended if needed as it only requires a onetime recovery process.

In general, we aim to restrict elective surgical sessions to 8 hours or less. A typical deep plane SMAS facelift typically requires about 4 to 5 hours, with an additional hour to an hour and a half for a brow lift. Conversely, liposuction of the abdomen typically takes around 2 hours. The overall duration depends on your surgeon's efficiency in performing each procedure. Beyond time considerations, it is safe to concurrently perform liposuction with facial procedures.
I perform facelift procedures with added body liposuction often. It depends on your surgeons comfortability with the combination surgeries.

Combining cosmetic plastic surgery procedures is not uncommon. In fact, it is a combination that I have successfully performed on numerous occasions. Whether you are a reasonable candidate for those procedures depends on your anatomy, your medical history, the extent of the procedures, realistic expectations of the outcome and an understanding of the pros and cons of the various procedures.

Safety should always be the main concern. It is generally recommended that the length of elective surgery be less than six hours. The procedures should be performed in an ambulatory facility that is accredited by one of the national organizations like the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF) or in a licensed hospital. Some surgeons would recommend an overnight stay at an appropriate facility where you can be appropriately monitored. Most patients prefer undergoing one anesthesia and one recovery period which is usually more cost effective.



Keep in mind that following the advice of any surgeon on this or any other web site who proposes to tell you what to do without: examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, and taking a full medical history, as well as discussing the pros and cons of each operative option would not be in your best interest. I would suggest you find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery who is ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with, and discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. That way, you can have a better idea what is safe and makes the most sense for you.

Before proceeding with a combination of these procedures, you should have medical clearance from your primary care physician and a discussion between him or her and your plastic surgeon.

In our practice, a male facelift and brow lift would take approximately 5 hours of surgery/ anesthesia time. Adding body liposuction would add additional hours depending upon what you're try to accomplish. It's probably best to separate your facial work from the body work and have them done separately, since this is done as an outpatient surgical procedure, not inpatient at a hospital.
