Hi! I’m 36, 6’1”, 225lbs & interested in improving the shape of my chest after losing 45lbs. What bothers me is the fullness & sagging in the lower lateral aspect of my chest as the tissue descends onto my torso. I’ve seen online different excision techniques on the lateral chest, mostly vertically oriented, to improve this area such as posterolateral thoracoplasty. Would a lateral chest wall excision provide improvement & a lift to my lower lateral chest. Thanks!
Answer: Male chest excess Hi, it seems you're asking about the side of the chest below the armpit and not the breast area itself. In patients who have lost significant weight and have very loose skin in moderate to significant amounts the "up and down" scar as you allude to can help greatly in tightening the skin of that area but tends to leave a wider scar. Your excess seems to be minimal and if the skin quality is good liposuction alone, as an office-based procedure, can reduce the fullness and the outward curve. If the skin quality is such that it is thin or has wrinkles presently, then extending a scar horizontally in that area can reduce the skin and the fat leaving you with a nice result with a better but visible scar. Best of luck

Answer: Lateral chest wall excision? If anything, I would recommend extending the liposuction around the side to treat your front bra rolls (side chest area) to maximize your contour of the area. Not sure if you had gland excision, but a little more liposuction of the chest with conservative tissue excision will maximize and likely meet your expectations.

Answer: Thoracoplasty Thoracoplasty is an operation designed to remove large amounts of excess skin that can commonly occur after massive weight loss. Based on the above pictures, I would be hesitant to recommend it as it may be a bit of an overkill for your issue. Liposuction possibly with the addition of an energy based skin tightening procedure such as Renuvion would most likely provide an excellent result with minimal scarring.

Answer: Gynecomastia with loose skin after weight loss Thank you for your query. Based on your photographs, i would recommend a Vaser liposuction of the gynecomastia with non surgical radio-frequency based skin tightening, like Thermitight or Bodytite. A lateral vertical thoracoplasty will result in scarring and incomplete improvement. A skin excision may not be necessary. Please find an experienced board certified Plastic surgeon who can examine you and help you with all your concerns. All the best!

Answer: Would a lateral chest wall excision provide improvement to my lower laser chest? A lateral chest wall excision, also known as liposuction or liposculpture of the lateral chest wall, can be an effective technique for improving the contour of the lower chest area in cases of gynecomastia. This procedure targets excess fat deposits on the sides of the chest, which can contribute to the appearance of "love handles" or an uneven chest contour. Here are some potential benefits of a lateral chest wall excision for improving the lower chest:1. Fat reduction: Liposuction removes excess fat cells from the targeted area, leading to a more sculpted and defined chest contour.2. Improved symmetry: Uneven fat distribution on the lateral chest wall can contribute to asymmetry in the chest area. Liposuction can help achieve a more balanced and symmetrical appearance.3. Enhanced definition: By removing excess fat, liposuction can reveal underlying muscle definition, creating a more toned and athletic appearance.4. Minimal scarring: Liposuction incisions are typically small and strategically placed, resulting in minimal scarring compared to traditional surgical techniques.5. Customizable results: The procedure can be tailored to address specific areas of concern and achieve the desired aesthetic outcome. It's important to note that while lateral chest wall excision can improve the appearance of the lower chest, it may not address other aspects of gynecomastia, such as excess glandular tissue or loose skin. In some cases, a combination of liposuction and glandular tissue excision may be necessary to achieve optimal results. Before undergoing any surgical procedure, it's essential to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in gynecomastia treatment. They can evaluate your individual anatomy, discuss your aesthetic goals, and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan for your needs. Additionally, they can provide detailed information about the procedure, potential risks and complications, and expected outcomes to help you make an informed decision.
