Is warm water bottle massage advised at 2 weeks after liposuction?

Question

After liposuction, there are hardnesses on body. I heard that warm water bottle massage on the hardness or liposuction areas makes them soft because this type of massage melt fat so the hardness will be soften by the warm water bottle massage. Would you recommend if warm water bottle massage is good or bad to do?

I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Liza.  It sounds like you are experiencing normal postoperative swelling and early, temporary scar formation under the skin. I recommend only gentle self massage with moisturizer and simply let the healing process continue and the firmness will eventually resolve on its own. Confirm my advice with your board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.

All type of heat treatment (including sauna, jacuzzi, hot water bags, etc) should be avoid completely after liposuction or any type of plastic surgery because the heat will cause more swelling. Ask your doctor. Dr. Cardenas

I am unfamiliar with warm bottle massage but normal massage after liposuction is a great thing to do.  I recommend massage around the 2 week mark.  Get the ok from your plastic surgeon before starting any treatments

Dear Liza2018,Thank you for your question.  The warm bottle helps because of the heat; it is not the warm bottle itself and it doesn't not melt fat.  the heat causes a local vasodilatation which helps your body clear away the swelling.  If your surgeon approves almost any massage will help.  Get back to a regular exercise regiment when your surgeon ok's it.  hoe this helps & good luck

In our practice we do not recommend the use of external heat in the early postoperative period as your skin sensation may be temporarily altered in the areas of recent surgery, which may result in the development of a burn injury. As you are only 2 weeks after surgery, areas of localized swelling will persist with 60-80% resolution at the 6th week, with the remainder resolving over 6 months or so.
If areas of persistent firmness persist, one may consider the use of soft tissue massage and / or ultrasound or radiofrequency devices which may accelerate the resolution of residual localized swelling. 
Continue followup with your plastic surgeon.

Unfortunately there are patients who burn themselves with a hot water bottle after surgery.  This is due to the fact that after surgery there is numbness to the areas treated.  I recommend discussing icing or heat packs/pads with your plastic surgeon prior to any of these adjuncts.

Massage after liposuction or almost any surgical procedure may subtly speed the resolution of the normal fibrosis or scarring that goes along with the procedure. Time alone will end up with a similar result in most patients
