Thigh high? Knee high? I'm so lost, there are tons of options... they all look like stockings to me. What are your preferences? What helps you heal better??? Let me know!
Answer: Dvt prophylaxis I give all of my patients thigh high stockings that I have them wear for 1 week after surgery. We also use compression around the calves called SCDs or seequential compression devices prior, during and afyer surgery. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery. Best of luck! Dr. Schwartz Board Certified Plastic Surgeon #RealSelf100Surgeon #RealSelfCORESurgeon

Answer: Compressions socks Thigh high stockings are fine, but if they encroach on an area that was grafted, then you will be better off with the knee high compression stockings. Regardless of the stockings, it is important to move your feet and legs regularly to avoid a clot forming in your legs. You can show your stockings to your surgeon to ask if that is what he or she recommends and go over your post-op activity instructions to make sure you have a safe and uneventful recovery! Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee MD Plastic Surgery

Answer: Compression stockings If your surgeon recommends you purchasing compression socks then he/she should give you their recommendation on strengths and brand. Many surgeons (including myself) use sequential compression stockings during surgery and then the patient is discharged home with a set of compression socks. I personally do not have patients purchase them for home use. Contact your surgeon to see what he/she recommends

Answer: The need for a compression stockings The great majority of patients who have surgery do not use compression socks afterwards. I honestly don't see why you would need them unless your surgeon recommends them. If your surgeon recommends them then he or she should tell you what to use. Compression socks by themselves do not have any significant risk reduction in blood clot formation. Sequential compression stockings which are completely different do you prevent blood clots and I usually used during and immediately after surgery. Talk to your plastic surgeon. Here she will review what do you need during your pre-op visit. If you don't have anymore office visits scheduled before your surgery than simply call your doctor and ask him or her. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
