Is it ok to trim my existing hair on day 8 of recovery from 2700 Neograft FUE procedure? (Photos)

Haircuts post grafting are typically delayed for approximately 10 days to 2 weeks. If you must do so before this point, special care must be taken to avoid disturbing the nascent grafts.Protocols will vary from practitioner to practitioner. The best advice is to follow the regimen as defined by your surgeon. These protocols have likely been formulated over years of experience. He/she will know best how to ensure the best result for you.In my practice we delay 10 days and work closely with our hair care professionals to ensure that the graft area is respected.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS) with experience in hair restoration.

It's completely understandable that you'd want to get your hair cut after your procedure, especially before a big social event. You can certainly cut your natural hair at this point in your recovery, however, be very careful to not disturb the grafts in any way. Of course, if your doctor has a different opinion, it's best to defer to him or her.

Thank you for your question.  I would recommend holding off on that trim so early into your recovery. I would speak to your doctor regarding your post operative instructions.  There are other activities that should be limited during your first 2-3 weeks.

We have had patients do exactly what you are planning on doing, and they haven't experienced any issues.  Blending your existing hair with the shaven donor site and sides should be just fine. The key, as you've mentioned, is you don't want your hair stylist to touch or damage the transplanted follicular units.Also, at 8 days post transplant I would still be very gentle with washing your scalp, as you don't want to damage the transplanted hairs. Thanks for sharing!

It depends.  I allow my patients to get a haircut 4-6 weeks after their hair transplant, but this all depends upon the healing process.  Therefore, it's best to ask your surgeon what he/she prefers.

If you have post surgical issues, please contact your doctor. Your doctor knows the details of you surgery and can best answer your question.In general, you should be able to trim or cut your hair after your wound has healed. 

I would wait until day 14 before attempting to cut your hair.  You would not want to hit, scrape, or otherwise disturb the follicles at Day #8.  They are still too fragile.  Best of Luck, Dr. Giordano

Congrats on your procedure. I'm sure you will be very happy with your result. You are bold to go to a wedding a week after a surgery! With regards to your question it would be fine for your stylist to blend in the back and sides. By now the harvest site punctures should be healed up. You are correct to have them stay away from the recipient sites for now even though the grafts are usually "locked in" by day 5-6. As far as what to expect.....you can see some shock loss but that will recover and your new grafts may take up to 3-4 months to start growing. By 6 months you should look remarkably improved. It will take up to a year to see the final result. Hope this helps.

I would say that it is ok to style the hair now at day 8 if you have a wedding. I would use scissors or clippers just not a razor. Hope that helps!
