I'm comfortable with the tip of my nose, and wouldn't dare to alter a thing. However, I'd like to remove a small bump on the bridge of my nose. I don't particularly desire a slope or more narrow bridge. Just the bump! Is this possible?

Answer: Is it possible to slope the bridge of my nose, without manipulating elsewhere The goal of good cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure is to produce harmony of the various anatomic components of the nose and your other facial features. In some patients with a good nasal tip and only a bump on the bridge, it is possible to just conservatively diminish the bump.Keep in mind that following the advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you what to do without seeing photos and more importantly without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of each operative procedure would not be in your best interest. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or facial plastic surgeon (otolaryngologist) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person.Robert Singer, MD FACSLa Jolla, California

Answer: Is it possible to slope the bridge of my nose, without manipulating elsewhere? Perth, Australia Great question. The answer is essentially yes. A nasal hump can be reduced without changing other aspects of the nose - particularly the tip. What you do need to be aware of though is that a change in one area of the nose does result in secondary effects. For dorsal hump removal the resultant change is a widening of the dorsum of the nose. Similar to if you cut the top off a pyramid, the area below the peak is wider than the peak itself. Therefore with most dorsal hump reductions the width of the nose is controlled with bilateral nasal infractures. Ultimately, the nasal width should therefore remain similar to that prior to surgery. I hope that helps.RegardsDr Guy Watts
