I had a rhinoplasty 7 months ago. I currently am still experiencing swelling (as expected). I was curious, however, as to what influences the development of Scar Tissue in the nose after a rhinoplasty? I play club basketball and get bumped in my nose every rare occasion. Would these types of bumps cause internal scarring? Is scarring purely uncontrollable and a case by case scenario? Thanks,

Answer: Scar formation after rhinoplasty Scar tissue develops after injury or trauma so repetitive hard trauma can increase the development of scar tissue in the nose. However, tiny bumps to the nose are unlikely to create more scarring. Some people do have a tendency to create more scarring and excessive scar formation can be somewhat controlled if there is knowledge of this problem before the surgery.

Answer: Rhinoplasty Thank you for your question. Scar tissue forms as the body attempts to heal itself. Once healed minor trauma should not result in the formation of additional scar tissue. Swelling is caused by a decrease in the fluid drainage as a result of the incisions used. If you have any concerns I would speak to your rhinoplasty surgeon regarding either scar tissue or swelling.
