Nasal "bone" sticking out between nostrils (Photo)

It looks like a piece of cartilage from a crooked nasal septum.  It is usually a simple procedure to snip off that excess piece of cartilage which is a fifteen minute procedure.

Hello,That is the edge if his septum that has deviated out into the left airway space. It is actually cartilage.  Although it does not present a problem in terms of infections, it can hinder airflow. If you want it fixed, visit a few surgeons expert in rhinoplasty.Best of luck!

Hello Patricia202,Thanks for your question.That nasal "bone" that you refer to is actually septal cartilage that is bent into the left nostril a bit.  There is no concern about increased infection risk.  If the septal deviation is causing airway problems, then a septoplasty procedure can be performed to straighten it out and improve the airway.See a septoplasty specialist in your area for an exam on your son if the problem becomes symptomatic.Take care,Dr. Shah

Patricia, as others have confirmed here, the structure you see is actually the front end of the nasal septal cartilage. It is not bone. Your best bet is to have him seen by a facial plastic surgeon who has more experience in dealing with deviations of the septum in this particular area. I am not so concerned regarding the barrier issue and germs. Best of luck.

This white bone is actually the Caudal end  of the septum which can be removed as well as correcting any other septal deviation. See a very experienced rhinoplasty surgeon who can correct this easily.

This is  a very common phenomenon where the end of the cartilaginous septum is deviated toward one side. If it causes breathing difficulties ,it can be corrected surgically.Sometimes, the appearance is bothersome as well. This can also be corrected.

 The photograph appears to demonstrate twisted cartilage at the end of the septum, known as the caudal septum.  This is usually due from trauma to the nose. The bridge line of the nose also appears asymmetric as well. As long as it's not blocking his airflow and breathing, best to wait till he is 18 years of age before repairing this issue.

Based on this picture, what you are really looking at is the end of the nasal septal cartilage sticking out into the nostril.  Caudal septal deviations are very common and can be reliably corrected through an intranasal approach.

Not sure exactly what is going on; but did you son have surgery before? what you are calling the bone is actually the anterior septum (unless he has had surgery before). Please contact our office with more details so we can provide you more accurate advice.
