If somebody has excessive swelling above the nasal tip, this may be reduced with a dilute steroid injection. If steroids are used in other areas of the nose where the skin may be thin, indentations in the skin may ensue. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Dr Joseph
Hi, It is better for you to consult with your facial plastic surgeon who can examine you and give you opinion based on examination. Scaring is vary from individual to another, minimal complication rate for steroid inj. if it's used for correct patient.
Steroid injections for treatment of the scars is a very established procedure which works well in most instances. However, particular location of scar, individual response, skin color, etc. are few of the issues to be considered before application. It is best to discuss this issue with your surgeon before treatment. Good luck.
Steroid injections are only placed for patients who have a polybeak deformity with excessive swelling when patients have thick skin in the nasal tip. They're usually placed in the first year after the surgery.
Hello,Surgeons who see scars regularly or have worked with them in the past, such as those with burn care experience are best for administering steroid injections. This is a step by step process which should be spaced out in small doses with a minimum 3-4 steps. As for the tip of the nose, the amount administered can be precisely even per side but it’s unpredictable how each side will respond. Work in small amounts with a trusted professional for the best outcome. For other scars, there are ways to prevent these but the main contributors are your genetics, the stitches, tension and the surgical techniques used. There are 4 types of scars-Normotrophic healing -Hypertrophic scars which are slightly raised up and thin-Keloid scars which have passed the limits of incision (identified as being high and wide)-Or, Depressed scars, which are concave Even with treatment, it may depress a scar at the incision site, but not entirely rid of it, depending on the aforementioned factors. Effectiveness of the treatment can also be to accept the scar/scar tissue psychologically which I believe aids in all healing. The most important takeaway and advice is: all scars need time. Do not rush to treat anything and let the body do its job.
