Thank you for your question! The short answer to your question is, no. If the surgeon worked on the bone the dorsum should not be wider.
Unless patient needs a wider nose, most rhinoplasty patients would end up with the same width or narrower nose. Postoperative swelling may create illusion of wider nose several weeks/months after rhinoplasty but this is temporary. The answer is NO.
Thank you Mazzyy for posting your question here, let me start by saying that my answer is based on the limited information provided, for a bespoke plan I would consult with your plastic surgeon. When it comes to how the nose looks after surgery , it will depend on what was performed during surgery, The surgery usually changes the underlying structures and as a result the shape of the nose. The plan on what gets done during surgery will depend on what your surgeon believes is necessary and what your goals are, very rarely do those plans result in a wider nose , but that can happen, some examples include:- swelling of after surgery which will be temporary and usually resolves by 6 months to a year - placing certain grafts can sometimes give the impression of slightly wider nose (for example placing spreader grafts can slightly widen the bridge of the nose , but might also be necessary for a functional outcome or to correct certain deformities).Whatever your goals and needs are I am sure your surgeon will be happy to discuss them with you and come up with a plan that works for you. I hope this helps, best of luck!
This is called an open roof deformity. In the operating room, we correct the open roof deformity with osteotomies. We try to make the nose as narrow as possible, however, if a large hump is removed, there are limitations insofar as how much narrowing can ultimately be achieved, even after osteotomies. Thank you for this question. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph
Hello and thank you for your question. Your nose can initially become wider just due to swelling. The final results take at least 1.5 years for the swelling to fully resolve. This can require lots of patience and waiting. Steroid injections performed by your surgeon can be extremely helpful. I usually start steroid injections around 1 to 2 months after surgery and continue as needed. The longterm result can be designed to be thinner if that is a goal of surgery. Best wishes and good luck.Richard G. Reish, M.D.Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
Your notes will not become wider from having rhinoplasty surgery unless the procedure is aimed at making your nose wider. If the dorsum is reduced, then the ratio of dorsal projection to the width of your nose is changed.Rhinoplasty is not an operation, but a general term that includes many different procedures to change the shape of the nose in many different nasal anatomic regions.Best,Mats Hagstrom MD
Hello!Thank you for your question As far as I can understand from your questionIt takes a full year for the nose to take its shape after surgery. If the result is not good enough for you at the end of 1 year, you can meet with your surgeon and create a planning, if you can send 2 photos from the...
Thank you for your question. Looking at your pre operative photo, it looks like you stared with an under projection to the tip. At the two month mark your tip looks more supported but that's due to the residual swelling in that area. I do agree the seven month post op photo does look under...
You have an underdeveloped mandible. It’s important to differentiate if the deficiency in projection is the body of the mandible or the chin region. In your case, I think it’s both. Jaw advanced surgery would be a more definitive procedure. Shin augmentation may be helpful as well. Consider con...
