Day 2 I removed bandage and put on sports bra but noticed pink rash (super itchy) - When will this resolve? (photo)

Question

Three days post implant removal. I removed under local and haven’t taken any pain meds. Day 2 I removed bandage and put on sports bra but noticed pink rash (super itchy) went to urgent care and they said contact dermatitis from bra or surgery prep solution. Taken Benadryl but no real improvement. Any ideas ?

Dear laurassssss,I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.

Thanks for your question and photos. The rash could be a reaction to the dressings, or the solution used to cleanse the skin before surgery. If there is no infection, it can be treated with oral or topical steroids. I'd contact the office of your plastic surgeon.

Thank you for the question and photos. It is difficult to answer your question without examining you however from reviewing your photos you may have reaction to the steri strips. It is best to have an examination by your board certified plastic surgeon. Topical or oral steroids may help. Good luck.

An allergic reaction after breast implant removal may be due to steri-strips, latex in the garment, antibiotic ointment, or any number of things.  If there is no infection, oral or topical steroids can be offered.   A comfortable t-shirt or the like worn underneath the sports bra usually tends to help with irritation and comfort.Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

I encourage you to speak with the surgeon who removed your implants.  It may be that a stronger medication than Benadryl is needed to improve the rash.  It is also possible that the rash is from something other than the post op bra or bandage.
