Rasping sides of nasal bridge. Any suggestions? (photos)

That should be possible. Rhinoplasty to address the size and shape of your nose should help you address your concerns. You have to understand that there is no such thing as the “perfect” nose. Perfect symmetry does not exist in nature. Attempts to improve the symmetry of your nose should be aimed at achieving an improvement in your asymmetry to the point where it is no longer very noticeable. If you look carefully enough, you will always be able to find imperfections. The goal is a normal looking nose that is in harmony with the rest of your anatomy.

In order to get rid of those bumps on the side of the nose, I feel it will be necessary to break the bones.  I don't think that rasping alone will take care of the problem

It is possible to perform rasping of the bone edges only under local anesthesia.  This will be a less expensive option.  However, I believe this is be dangerous of not allowing your surgeon access to the entire anatomy of your nose.  Small changes in any one part of the nose affect the appearance of the other parts of the nose.  It is always best to avoid the "quick fix" type of surgery in rhinoplasty and instead commit to the full surgery.  Although more costly, this will ultimately give you a more reliable chance of a satisfactory longterm outcome.    With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. Yes, it is possible to rasp the edges of those bones so they will not appear as sharply defined under the skin. It may also reduce some of the blanching. However, the nose will still be about as wide and, if rasped too much, may produce slight indentations if gone through the entire thickness of bone. The "best" solution would be a slight amount of rasping with in-fracturing of the bones.

NoIf you rasp the protrusions of your nose you will accentuate the deviation of your nose which will make it look worse as well as accentuating the middle third depressions which would require spreader type grafts be placed.

While it might seem simple to just rasp the sides of the nose, the dorsum is very complex and often requires more complex maneuvers in addition to rasping such as osteotomies to correct the deviation. Hope this helps and good luck 

You should tread very carefully here. Often in rhinoplasty we shave down a hump like you would file down a nail. In your case, the bumps on the side are due to the nasal bones being shifted to the left and right from your fracture. It is better to rebreak the nose and reset the bones than attempt to shave them down. The upper lateral cartilages of the middle third of your nose attach to the sides and if you detach them during aggressive rasping they can fall inwards and leave you with breathing difficulties. In your case I believe that fixing the broken bones should be covered by insurance. You can get this done under local but breaking the bones is better done asleep with twilight anesthesia.

 When the nose has been broken and displaced, a rhinoplasty with osteotomies are usually required to straighten the nose and put it back to its pre-injury state. Simply filing off the dorsal hump that is present on the bridge line will create an open roof deformity, also known as a flat top nose. In addition, the concave upper lateral cartilages in the mid vault may fall inward even more than they already are. A full rhinoplasty is required to reset the nasal bones straight, shave down the dorsal humps, and place spreader grafts in a concave upper lateral cartilages. All rhinoplasty procedures in our practice are performed under general anesthesia by a board certified anesthesiologist for patient safety and comfort. It is a bad idea to try to undergo a rhinoplasty under  local anesthesia
