What's your opinion about Restylane Defyne under the eyes for tear trough/orbital hollows (not dark circles)?

Restylane Defyne is a workhorse filler that can work great in most areas when used appropriately. It's not my first choice for the tear trough area under the eyes. There are just better options out there for the under eyes. But, choice of filler is only one part of the equation. The most important factor is the skill and the experience of the injector. Expert injectors can work with any filler within reason. Best wishes.

Thank you for your question. I do not recommend Restylane Defyne for under the eyes, It's too thick. I only recommend regular Restylane. It is a much thinner filler and yes although it's indicated to only last about 6 months, it may last longer and as you keep up with it, it will help build your own collagen. I would suggest speaking with an experienced Board Certified Injector. Best of luck to you.

Restylane Defyne is my favorite for under eye fillers. The product is both long-lasting and flexible for your facial expressions. Please be aware that tear troughs are very complex to inject and it is important to be conservative and natural with the under eyes. It is important to seek an experienced injector, preferably a Face ad Neck Plastics Surgeon. Best, Dr. Anil Shah

Remember HA fillers draw water and can cause swelling. For tear troughs I like using Restylane Refyne. It is thinner and causes less swelling. I do tear troughs in 2 sittings over 7 days to get the best result. Restylane Defyne is thicker and is great for the mid face and cheeks. That helps enhance the tear troughs as well. Hi and thanks for your question! Defyne can be used under the eyes, but I don't think its the ideal filler for that area. When I have used it, I have seen more swelling than I do now using a product like Versa. Restylane is fine, but its easier to get a perfectly smooth contour with a softer filler like Versa. In terms of duration, most of the HA fillers we use last for a very long time under the eyes. If injected correctly, a filler there will last for up to 6 years. I tell my patients to expect 2 to 3 years, but be pleasantly surprised when it lasts for more. Hope that helps.

It does not have nearly as high a G prime as Restylane. That means that it is more runny in tissue than Restylane. It does not hold in the tear trough. On longevity, it is no different than Restylane. I recommend avoiding Restylane Defyne for the under eye area and injectors who recommend the product. 

I don't think it should last any longer than Restylane for this area. However, I do use Defyne here for some patients and it does very well. I think each person should be individualized and not one filler is always used for this area. This and Restylane are my main fillers for this area.
