What's your second opinion on this intermittent, burning/stinging pain? (Photos)

Hello, its common to have this type of pain after surgery. A large nerve that supplies sensation is on the outer part of your breast. Typically this gets better over the next few weeks. I still recommend you discussing with your PS who can exam and verify this is normal.

Thanks for your question...Nerve related pains should be temporary. However, if it persists long term, speak to your surgeon as he may be able to prescribe you medication to help with the discomfort. What you are describing sounds very normal. Your surgeon will be able to confirm this with the in person evaluation. All of my patients have one side that is more tender than the other. At 5 days you are about 3 percent healed.Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author

At 5 days post-op it is not uncommon to have areas of shooting pain. This could be due to the effect of the implant causing pressure on nerves, swelling, or generalized inflammation after surgery. In my experience these pains almost always go away with time though it may take weeks to months. If it is not tolerable or getting worse, mention this to your surgeon as additional examination/work up and medications might be needed. 

Cherrprn4.  I appreciate your concern, however I do not see anything unusual in your photographs and it sounds like you are experiencing normal postoperative pain. However, if it worsens or does not subside over the next day or two, I recommend that you see your plastic surgeon. Good luck.

Thank you for your question. An in person examination is always critical to determine what is going on. However, It sounds as though you have nerve pain. This is very common and it is a result of one of the nerves being injured and healing. As nerves heal they can feel like zapping pains and burning pains. If the pain is unbearable and there are no physical signs of something else then neurontin (gabapentin) can be a very helpful medication. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question and photos. This pain is commonly felt after a breast augmentation and is typically nerve pain. The nerve that supplies the nipple with sensation runs along the outside of the breast where you are pointing to. This can be stretched and irritated from the implant and is typically temporary. Nerve pain can feel like a burning, stinging, or sometimes intermittent "zings." We recommend tylenol to help with inflammation during the first 10 days, and if it continues after that we recommend ibuprofen. 

This type of pain is not uncommon.  Unless something else comes up, I think it will resolve w time.
