Why would I gain inches and then still have pain this long after lipo?

Question

I’m 9 months post op from lipo and a bbl. I immediately gained 2 inches everywhere that was lipoed and 4 inches in my waist. No weight gain, diet changes, I’m just BIGGER. Why is that? I also have had bad back pain since surgery, all up the right side of my back. I basically can’t do anything or it worsens the pain and swelling. Like just laundry and cooking doubled over in pain. Nothing visibly wrong besides the terrible job that was done.

If you're stating that you immediately gained weight following liposuction and a bbl, your body is likely still swollen from the procedure.  It takes time for swelling the to gradually dissipate and your activity level (if moderate to rigorous) can cause your body to take longer to heal.  In regards to your back pain, it could be that what you are describing is actually your nerves waking up and regrowing. You can also experience more discomfort for a longer period of time if the liposuction was performed more aggressively. My best advice would be to follow up with your plastic surgeon, keep all of your follow up appointments and communicate your concerns directly to him/her.

Thank you so much for share with us your question, and I'm very sorry to read about your pain and discomfort. 9 months after a Lipo surgery is the total recovery time you should contact your Surgeon who knows exactly the technique thatwas used in your surgery and he definitely can help you to determinate why you still have pain after this time. 
Without photos is very difficult to determinate the reason. If you don't like or you do not feel comfortable with your Surgeon opinion contact another Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

If you are having pain nine months after liposuction and fat transfer you should consult with your plastic surgeon. Without photos it is difficult to offer any explanation as to why you would be larger after liposuction.Best wishes,Dr.Bruno

Sorry for your pain and discomfort. It is difficult to give you an opinion without seeing some before and after photographs. It is certainly very unusual, especially 9 months after surgery. The swelling should have all gone by now. Please discuss your concerns with your Plastic Surgeon and also seek a second opinion. All The Best !

I’m sorry for the adverse symptoms you are experiencing. The swelling and pain during the first couple of weeks is significant, and most patients will have difficulties moving around. However, your plastic surgeon will prescribe pain medication to handle any pain that might be involved and help you feel much more comfortable. Since you notice an increase in swelling and acute pain 9 months after surgery, I would suggest contacting your plastic surgeon to discuss your particular concerns. He/she has intimate knowledge about the procedure performed and detailed familiarity about your potential complications. You might be delaying your recovery by not contacting your plastic surgeon. Hello and thank you for your question. I’m sorry to hear you are still suffering from pain and discomfort so long after your procedure, as well as experiencing unsatisfying results. At nine months post-op, nearly all of your swelling should have subsided. You should also not be experiencing lingering side effects like pain or discomfort in the treatment areas. If you followed all of your plastic surgeon’s aftercare instructions and made sure to allow your body plenty of time to rest at the start of your recovery, then you should look and feel much better at this point.
