Thank you for your question. Some surgeons allow the patient to choose between a few options while some surgeons prefer a certain shaving to assist them in their application of NeoGraft. I suggest that you consult with your board certified facial plastic surgeon.Best wishes,
In general you do not need to shave the recipient area for hair transplant surgery but some doctors may request it.
With FUE, generally the DONOR site where follicles are to be taken is shaved and the RECIPIENT site where the follicles are placed is NOT shaved. With smaller grafting sessions, the entire donor region need not be shaved and the thin strips of shaved regions can be covered with hair to hide the shaved sections. Hope that makes sense?
Shaving the recipient may be helpful, especially in the crown. It's not mandatory, but may be beneficial.Dr John Frank, MDNew YorkOhio
You do not have to shave the recipient area for an FUE transplant if the existing hair density is low or the amount of grafts is small.Of course, it all comes down to the preference - and the skills - of your surgeon.
This depends on the size of your procedure. For procedures of less than 1500 grafts, shaving of donor region not needed, nor the recipient. For 3000 grafts or less, a buzz or crew cut for the donor region, the recipient can remain long. For procedures between of less than 5500 grafts, donor region will need to be buzzed, recipient will also need to be cut short.
Good morning. This is a very common and good question. The answer is no.The only area to be shaved will be the donor area, which is where the hair will be remover to be transplanted. Usually the hair is shaven in the practice before the procedure , so you don't have to worry about it.I hope this helps.Best of lucks!
Yes, to get a good FUE transplant, the shaving is needed to get good visualization of this area. If you do a small FUE, we can keep the hair long and do it with long hair. If the number of grafts are kept to under 1200 and your density is good and your hair is long, we can do it with a shave between the long hair above and below as shown in the picture below (this FUE was done by us in 1998)
With FUE harvesting technique the donor area is shaved. However the recipient area does not need to be shaved. Some doctors shave the recipient to make it easier for them to place the grafts but it is not necessary. At our clinic, if we need to shave the recipient area, we always ask the client and get their consent first.
