Can this cause bruising or make my bruise worse after juvederm lip injections?

Question

I had 1 syringe of juvederm injected into my lips yesterday. At my appointment i saw a few spots on my lips start to get dark & today, they are progressively getting worse. i am also swollen. My doctor told me to take ibuprofen to help with the swelling.. but after doing research I see that ibuprofen can actually lead to more bruising? i am also a green tea drinker & take omega-3/vit E daily. I have stopped them all, but when is it ok to continue them without risking a worsening to my bruising?

Thank you for your question. It is too early at 1-day post-treatment to determine what your final results will be as it takes up to 2 weeks for all swelling and bruising to resolve. You can apply cold compresses to your lips to help reduce any swelling and bruising. It is also advisable to avoid any NSAID’s such as ibuprofen as they tend to thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising and swelling. I recommend having a follow in 2 weeks with your injector for an evaluation. Best of Luck!

Bruising often peaks 48 hours after facial filler injections. I would NOT use Ibuprofen as the effect on your platelets may worsen the bruising. Arnica Montana is a homeopathic medication that may be helpful (hard to prove) and should not exacerbate bruising. The best approach is really giving a few days for the discoloration to go down and then concealment with makeup until discoloration fully resolves in about a week.

Swelling from Juvederm injections are worse on about the second post injection day. Bruising can last a week or longer. 
You are one day from Juvederm injections in your lips and now with lots of swelling. I would definitely not take ibuprofen as suggested to you for at least a week. This will make you bruise worse. In fact, I have my patients discontinue ibuprofen, Aleve, aspirin, fish oil, flax seed oil, and green tea, as well as any herbs for two weeks prior to getting injections.This minimizes bleeding, bruising, and swelling. 
At this point your best treatment would be ice soaks or an ice pack. After about a week, you can reassess your lips to see if they are symmetrical and what you're looking for.I suggest injecting lips with a micro-cannula, which diminishes the risk of bleeding, swelling, and bruising.
