72 hours after lip filler 1 ml total - lump or swelling? It was there yesterday but not as prominent. (photos)

Hello Montana.Your swelling is significant and not unusual. I usually recommend lots of icing and to avoid massage with Silk. You can speak with your injector about your concerns and see if they approve Arnica to reduce the swelling.Best wishes,

It is not unusual to have profound swelling in the lips following a treatment.  We've noticed a delayed reaction with the SILK product wherein swelling becomes more of an issue several hours following the treatment.  Contrary to suggestion, we advocate that you do not massage, squeeze, manipulate the product.  This will generally exacerbate the swelling and/or move the SILK product out of the treatment area.  We also would discourage warm compresses at this point in favor of an anti-histamine, Ibuprofen, and a gentle touch with avoiding intentional massaging or squeezing.  If you are observing swelling only, this will improve with each passing day.  If there was bruising, it's not unusual to have lumpiness.  Most of all, keep in touch with your injector so that they may offer good feedback and address any concerns that do not seem to be resolving with the above interventions within the first 7-14 days.

You most likely have swelling, which can last 1-2 weeks after your injections. You can apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 mins a time, in order to help decrease swelling and even out the lumps. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Your photos show that you are swollen from the filler.  Since you also describe a bruise in the area, I believe that the area of concern should diminish.  Give it a full two weeks for everything to settle and then follow up with your injecting provider if you are still concerned.  Best of luck!

It is not that complicated to inject fillers properly.  All of the product can be massaged at the time of placement so these issues don't develop.  I also inject with cannulas to avoid some other excess swelling and bruising.

It looks like you have significant swelling from the filler. This is not unusual with Restylane Silk. Gentle massage to the area with the lump can be helpful. It is hard to determine at this point if the lump is from swelling or from a pocket of filler. It will take 1-2 weeks for all swelling to resolve. Often times antihistamines, such as Benadryl can be beneficial for the swelling, or you can have your physician prescribe you prednisone which will also help with the inflammation. 

Thank you for sharing your photos and your concerns.  I'm sorry to see that you're experiencing swelling after your filler injections.  The lips are a sensitive area, and it's not uncommon to experience swelling for up to 2 weeks after filler injections.  Personally, I find that Restylane Silk has more of a tendency to swell than any other lip filler product - to the point where I have almost completely stopped recommending it.  
It sounds like you are doing everything correctly - ice and cool compresses are a great idea.  If your swelling persists, please follow-up with your injector to discuss your concerns.
