What are the long-term risks of implants for cheekbone augmentation? (Photo)

Question

Are implants the best option if I want a long-term result? My body metabolizes fillers so quickly that it wouldn’t be worth it to augment my cheekbones with them. Will cheekbone implants weaken the bone or cause a gaunt look over time? My cheeks have plenty of volume, I’d just like more lift. See the photo for how my cheekbones currently look. Thank you!

Facial sculpting and contouring of the face can be created with well-placed and long lasting fillers like Bellafill which can lasts up to 5-10 years. Facial implants can be removed or revised if there is a risk of 
extrusion, malplacement, nerve damage, infection, or asymmetry. It is 
sometimes important to obtain imaging studies to determine the cause of 
the imbalance, whether it is related to the implant itself or facial 
asymmetry.

There are very few risks with long-term cheek implants. We have seen patients 20 years later and they look just fine. The cheek implants themselves are manufactured in a large array of sizes, thicknesses, and shapes is best determined at the time of the consultation and examination. Cheek implants are placed through an intraoral incision under a brief general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. the  biggest risk is looking overdone and obvious. You have very lovely cheekbones now. More is not better.
