Hi I had full rhinoplasty done 7 months ago. I am due to 2 have a small bump rasped down which came back.My surgeon said it's a really quick job could be done under local anesthetic.is this achievable under local anesthetic, is it painful? he did say about general but am so scared of been put to sleep I think I would sooner have local. Afterwards he said I will need tape, possibly a cast for a few days. Will i get bruising and swelling like I did with a full rhinoplasty? Thanks in advance

If your nose is wide on front view, lowering your bump may lead to a wider frontal appearance - open roof. Answer: What happens when u have rasping done after rhinoplasty? Usually, adequate dorsal contour is achieved at the time of initial Rhinoplasty procedure. Occasionally, the smoothness achieved at that time- can be disrupted by recurrence of fullness at the bony portion. Additional rasping may be required. I would prefer to do this under general to maximize the outcome.

Tape is usually placed on the bridge of the nose for one week. You shouldn't get as much swelling as you did with the original rhinoplasty. Of course, everyone heals in a different fashion. It is not common for the bumps to come back after the first surgery, but they can. These are readily addressed with the procedure your surgeon has described. The incisions are all performed inside of the nose and only takes a few minutes. The bruising and swelling may occur but should be less than the first surgery because less has to be done. Answer: Minor Nasal Swelling of the Bridge Post-op Thanks for your post and photo. Often after rhinoplasty patient's can have some minor nasal swelling for months after rasping of the nasal bones or osteotomies. This is normal and is often a result of callus formation at the site of the bridge, which, over time allows the nasal bones and structures to heal appropriately. Additionally with some thin skin individuals, the rasping technique itself can cause skin and soft tissue swelling from repeat contact with the tissue while doing the surgery. Improving these minor persistent bumps is relatively simple, but it is my practice to wait at least 12 months before considering a minor revision. More often than not, these small bumps disappear on their own and no further surgery is needed. When swelling persists beyond one year or so, I prefer to do offer this refinement revision under general anesthesia, not local, due to better patient tolerance. Seldom do patient's experience any bruising or significant pain post-operatively. I do require a nasal splint (tape and cast) to be in place for 6-7 days after re-rasping. You seem very happy otherwise with your rhinoplasty result and apparently have a good professional relationship with your surgeon. Of course, follow your doctors' recommendations, but in my view, I would give yourself more time to heal before committing to another procedure, even a minor one. Hope this answer helps.
