Do I have tissue necrosis after lip fillers? (photos)

Thank you for your question and aI am sorry to hear of your filler issues.  Though nothing replaces an in-person examination, it appears that the whitish area is most consistent with the development of a bruise and not necrosis.  Should you see worsening of this area I would contact your injector immediately to have medication placed to dissolve your filler.

What you are experiencing is bruising and swelling which is common after lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid fillers and can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. You can apply cold compresses to the treated area to help reduce swelling. It is also advisable to avoid any NSAID’s as they tend to thin the blood and increase bruising and swelling. If you have any concerns please follow up with your injector. Best of Luck!

So sorry to hear you are having tenderness after your filler. This can happen after the treatment. This is probably not necrosis but a bruise..Necrosis is very rare and very painful. You would even have an ulceration by now. If you have any concerns or continued pain it is also best to contact your injector.

Almost certainly this is not necrosis. The signs of necrosis are initially poor circulation which is blanching. This is immediate. This extends beyond the area injected. It then becomes more painful than usual and gets a reticulated or mottled appearance. Over 2-3 days, the tissue starts to die, and turns dark with usually a superficial infection too. Please see my link. This represents a bruise and I would run it by your doc.

Hello Loki26,First off is that tissue necrosis is an exceedingly rare complication as a result of injection of filler into a blood vessel.  Because that blood vessel feeds a large area of skin, it is not a small finding.  So based purely on your history, I would not be concerned about a small white spot.  Given its size and location, it is either a bruise or possibly asymmetric injection of the filler which has lifted the red part of the lip up in that area.  Having said all of that, if you do have a concern about anything the best action is to always see your injector.  There is nothing that can replace an in person evaluation.I hope this helps and good luck.    

Sorry to hear of this problem with your lip injection. It seems like a lot of product to be injected so I would suggest you go back to the office where you received the injections. I would predict that the doctor will see you and make sure that everything is okay. Better to be safe.
