My mouth pulls to one side when I rest it, what can I do to fix it? (Photos)

Question

Recently my friends and family have a commented how my mouth pulls to one side when resting. I watched myself back on a zoom call and can see exactly what they mean. I have TMj problems as of recently but this looks more like a nerve problem to me. I’m getting so down about it as it looks like I have bels palsy and has knocked my confidence so much. I’ve had threads done before and filler. Could you please advice, is this something that Is tissue/muscle or displacement of my jaw? Thanks

I'm so sorry to hear this is effecting your confidence. You have mentioned TMJ problems - are you undergoing treatment for this? is it both sides of your jaw effected or only one side? You really need a proper assessment in person so the root cause can be established. I would suggest booking a face to face consultation so that the muscle can be assessed on both sides of your face. Most clinic will offer a free consultation and this will help determine what the problem is.  If it is related to the muscle then sometimes botox can help. If you have pain from clenching your jaw, grinding your teeth or headaches then botox can also help with these symptoms. All the best.

It looks like what you have is a habitual facial tic and you have to simply become more aware of it and try to relax that side of the face. Using Botox may create some problems, but at the same time it might help you in treating the condition as long as you understand that there will be significant asymmetry in the face once botox is administered. Thank you for your question! The easiest way to improve drooping corners of the mouth is with hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane and Juvederm.  Placed in the corners of the mouth it effectively gives a "lift".  Additionally, low doses of Botox to the muscle that pull the corner of the mouth down can also be helpful.   In older patients, a corner of the mouth lift with incisions is very effective, but does leave a relatively inconspicuous scar.
