Medical grade silicone microdroplet injection on the lips. Any suggestions?

Hello mirelus,Thanks for your question.Permanent filler has a very particular set of risks that you must be able to accept.  Discuss these with your injector prior to procedure.Most physicians will recommend that you stay away from permanent fillers.  The best technique for silicone injections is microdroplet technique.  They must be done under sterile conditions.  Some might recommend a short course of antibiotics before and after injections.Make sure your injector is truly experienced.Good luck,Dr. Shah

I do not suggest silicone to this area.  Implants or fat for longer term improvement.  There are risk of long term complications.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Dear Mirelus:In my humble opinion, permanent fillers should be used only to treat acne scars. I believe there would be a high risk of complications if you were to put silicone on the lips, even via the microdroplet technique. I have seen patients with granulomatous reactions to silicone. The only definitive treatment for this is removal of all of the silicone material, which would be especially difficult in the lips. All the best, Dr. Clark

Hi mirelus. I generally do not recommend any permanent fillers in the face. I have done too many lip reductions on patients with permanent fillers who are unhappy with the results. There are a few doctors out there that do silicone injections well and if you are set on silicone I would recommend finding someone with a lot of experience since there are many potential complications. Medical grade silicone is used as a glue for retina eye surgery. This area is highly privileged since there is no immune inflammatory reaction . That is the ONLY FDA approved use .Those who say collagen is stimulated by silicone, or silicone has no reaction even in micro droplets, do not understand the reaction to injected silicone.You may not have immediate reaction, but the long term reaction can be devastating and difficult to treat
