Can silicone oil in lips go bad after it's in there for many years?

Nodules or bumps may occur, rarely, after silicone lip injections. If your lips are fine after ten years, there should be no reason to worry about the future of your lips. As you age, you will continue to lose lip volume, and if you desire further augmentation, ensure your physician is familiar with the serial puncture microdroplet technique. Hope this helps.Dr Joseph

I am glad that you are "problem free" from your decade old injections and hope this pattern continues.  The major problem with silicone and all other permanent substances when used as aesthetic injectables is placing a permanent material into a changing or aging substrate. The body changes, but the silicone does not age with it.  I, like many other Surgeons on this site have removed silicone and PMMA from patients 5-10 years after the original injections. I strongly recommend that readers of this website think twice about having any permanent material injected in their face.

Robinmedical grade silicone injected conservatively, with a technique called micro-droplets, decreases the chances of problems, but does not guarantee nothing will happen. The problem is silicone injections are permanent, and if the silicone migrates superficially, can cause lumpy deformity in the lips. I have had to excise silicone that has migrated too many times to recommend it to anybody, no matter how elegant the clinic. Thankfully, you are not having problems, and hopefully never will.
