I had under eye filler with Volbella and a cannula. Is this normal and a good result? (Photo)

Question

Since having the filler the Canula marks have never gone down. Underneath my eyes looks dark and on two seperate occasions , the first being three weeks after the filler , the 2nd just last week , bruises have appeared under my eyes in thepoition where the Canula went in . I was also diagnosed with cellulitis in the issues around my eyes which i am currently still taking antibiotics for. I was told it was swelling and would go in a week. To Me it looks and feels like filler has been incorrectly placed

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  Though the contour appears to be good you should not be having recurrent bouts of bruising and cellulitis weeks after treatment. I am concerned you may have developed a biofilm reaction with bacteria that will necessitate dissolving the Volbella and initiating antibiotic coverage. See your injector for an in-person evaluation.

From your description and the photos it appears to be some deep bruising that is taking its time to resolve.  The contour appears to be fine.  There will be associated edema (swelling) until the bruise resolves entirely.  I'd allow at least 4-6 weeks before judging the final result.  If it is still dark looking/ purple it could be the filler was placed a bit superficially and you are experiencing tyndall effect, but I think this is unlikely from the pictures.  Good luck!

Your contour looks good. While the bruising could take another couple of weeks to resolve, the fact that you are still having that combined with the cellulitis is troubling. I would suggest that you be seen in person by your injector just to be on the safe side.

The filler looks great- no bumps or lumps and the shadow has gone away nicely. because the skin is so thin here- bruising can happen even with a cannula. best of luck!

My suggestion is to wait, as having infection or cellulitis can prolong the inflammation and hence the swelling and bruising. Cannulas are great for this area, the reduce, but not eliminate the incidence of bruising with fillers. Hold out for another two weeks. All the best, Dr Davin S. Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
