Can I have liposuction one year after having a kidney removed due to cancer?

Question

I had a radical nephrectomy in April 2021 due to a cancerous tumour. I have since been for ct scans which show I am clear of any cancer. I want to get liposuction on my abdomen & back in April 2022, is this safe ?

Thank you for your enquiry.
Unless you have been on any cancer medication recently, I can't see why this should be a problem. I would recommend however to check this with your cancer team first.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. You will need to get a clearance from your doctor prior to surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

I am happy for you that you are cancer free! In order to determine if it is safe for you to have liposuction you will  want to first speak with your oncologist and nephrologist.  If given clearance you can then visit with a board certified plastic surgeon near you for a consultation. I see no reason why you cannot have liposuction because of a history of a nephrectomy or having had cancer.

There are a few situations where liposuction may not be appropriate. One of those would be patients who had external beam radiation therapy for the cancer.  I suggest scheduling a few in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons. You may also want to talk to your primary care doctor or nephrologist if you have one and see how they feel about it.
