Hey, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there's any more risk in lipo since I an asthmatic & have PCOS. I would like to know if these conditions in any way worsen the risks. I'd also like to know if Lipo in 12 areas & Implants with lift can all be done in one surgery & is it safe. Thank you .
Answer: Need clearance You need to see your asthma physician and get cleared for surgery. Tell your physician you will probably need 5 to 6 hours of general anesthesia and see if you qualify. If you are cleared, you can always do these in two separate sessions, if you wish. Liposuction is the easier of the two procedures. So perhaps you can do the liposuction first and see how you tolerate that. Liposuction in multiple areas can be done in usually 2 hours with minimal incisions. If this is successful then you can consider implants with a lift. This is generally a longer operation. The technique I recommend is The Bellesoma Method. This will reshape your breast tissue creating upper pole fullness without implants, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained. Later, fat transfers can be performed if additional volume is desired. Implants are not lifetime devices. 8% fail within the first year and 30% fail within six years. Fat transfers are permanent and incorporated into the body.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Asthma and PCOS and elective cosmetic surgery You are definitively at increased risk regarding general anesthesia which is needed for liposuction and breast augmentation due to asthma. Good clinical evaluation before surgery and discussion with your surgeon and PCP how to prepare yourself for surgery is recommended. Try to avoid doing surgery in clinics with high volume of patients since you may need more attention both before and after surgery.Good luck.

Answer: Asthma Risks With Cosmetic Surgery I appreciate your concerns, and as long as your asthma is well-controlled, with clearance from your medical doctor, your asthma should not be a contraindication for surgery. Your plastic surgeon will most likely request that you bring your asthma inhaler with you when you arrive for surgery. However, you are essentially describing a form of mommy makeover surgery, and board-certified plastic surgeons recommend limiting multiple procedures on an outpatient basis to be performed within six hours. If your surgeon cannot do all the areas you desire within that time frame, staging the operation is a safer option. Also an absolute limit of 5 L of aspirate can be taken in one sitting. Consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area to greatly increase your chances for the best and safest result. Good luck.
