Do belly button rings make your skin sag after lipo?

Thank you for your question. With liposuction, fat is removed and the overlying skin will shrink and tighten. The degree of tightening depends on the skin quality and age of the patient. A belly button ring will cause mild distortion and scarring in this area. In general, this should not affect the overall cosmetic results. I would discuss this with your surgeon before proceeding.

Liposuction will not affect the belly rings sometimes the skin tightens and the belly button changes shape though.You need a formal evaluation by an expert in body shaping and contouring to determine what is best.  Traditional liposuction awake and smart liposuction are old methods and do very poorly for tightening skin or significant skin tightening or contouring.  Small problem areas can be improved slightly by these methods.  The best in body contouring not only removes fat with energy devices like VASER ultrasound but also internally heat the skin with radio-frequency devices such as J PLASMA/RENUVION, InMode BodyTite, ThermiRF to heat the under surface of the skin and tighten it at the same time as fat removal. These combinations are called 4D HIDEF VASER contouring and can only be done by a well . trained body contouring specialist. At the same time fat should be harvested, PRP and stem cells added and injected into muscles or indentations/cellulite to get body shaping and contouring.  This is known as a Brazilian butt lift when you inject the fat to the buttock for contouring and lifting, but fat can also be used in areas such as the chest/breast, arms/shoulders, calves and face.  Cellulite should also be treated with cellfina, sculptra, subcision and/or fillers such as bellafill, renuva synthetic fat, or sculptra.  If skin is very loose before surgery then it will need to be removed such as lower abdominal skin (tummy tuck/abdominoplasty), breast skin (breast lift), arm skin (brachioplasty).  Overall you need a full assessment, but simple liposuction alone will not tighten skin and needs a combination of various methods -- fat removal, skin tightening, defining, fat grafting, skin removal -- to get the best in body contouring and body sculpting.  Dr. Emer.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, your rings should have no effect on liposuction results. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

ErikaI appreciate your concerns, however a belly ring should not affect your recovery from liposuction and unless the ring is extremely heavy, should not cause any sort of sagging of your skin afterwards. You may have to temporarily remove the ring during surgery. Consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area to confirm my advice. Good luck.

Belly Button sag occurs after liposuction if you have too much skin, your skin is too loose, or it has lost its elasticity. Belly button rings will not affect your belly button after liposuction. Hope this helps!

There will be excess skin if you already have a lot of fat and skin before the procedure or skin laxity. In this case, you would need a tummy tuck to remove the excess skin. The belly button piercing itself shouldn't cause sagging. 

Having a piercing should not affect the outcome of abdominal liposuction.There are two issues that sometimes come up with abdominal  Liposuction in regards to the belly button.People who have the beginning of a sad looking belly button may have a worsening of this with fat removal whether from Liposuction or weight loss. This typically stems from skin laxity of the upper abdomen.The second issue that sometimes comes up is an uneven contour of the area surrounding the belly button.The fat surrounding the belly button requires a little more work than the rest of the abdomen and this is an area that can comes out uneven when done by providers who lack experience or formal training.  Look at lots of before and after pictures and look to see what the central abdomen looks like before choosing a provider.I suggest having multiple in person consultations with experienced board-certified plastic surgeons in your area.Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
