Can you have liposuction with diastasis recti?

Hello,Liposuction will not treat the diastasis recti but will help contour your abdomen and hips. The muscle separation/bulge may be more noticeable after liposuction as the tissues will be more lean and defined. Hi courageous288698,Having diastasis recti can provide some forward protrusion/fulness of your abdomen because the internal organs are held back less-especially after a big meal or full bladder.  The lipo will reduce the volume of tissue above the muscle and help the skin deflate down about 25% towards the muscle.  The Renuvion technology is very effective for skin tightening and adds a few minutes to surgery but is a great way to address loose skin.  Good job with your therapy and you just may see the diastasis lessen!  My best, Dr. Doolabh

Thank you for your question. Yes you can have lipo if you have diastasis recti, however, as you stated, lipo will not correct diastasis recti, only a tummy tuck can correct that. Be sure to see a board certified plastic surgeon.

You need a formal evaluation by an expert in body shaping and contouring to determine what is best.  Traditional liposuction awake and smart liposuction are old methods and do very poorly for tightening skin or significant skin tightening or contouring.  Small problem areas can be improved slightly by these methods.  The best in body contouring not only removes fat with energy devices like VASER ultrasound but also internally heat the skin with radio-frequency devices such as J PLASMA/RENUVION, InMode BodyTite, ThermiRF to heat the under surface of the skin and tighten it at the same time as fat removal. you can get a liposuction even if you have diastasis recti. It is better to postpone tummy tuck until you are done with pregnancies. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. I think you actually have a very good plan. Go for the liposuction and fat transfer/BBL now, and then down the road after you have had children, you can always have a tummy tuck with your mommy makeover. This makes total sense as long as you understand that you may have some redundant skin and a less traumatic result with the liposuction. Be certain to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area to greatly increase chances for the best possible results. Good luck.

Diastasis recti can limit how slim you can get with just liposuction alone as it may make your abdomen appear more round from bulging. You are correct in that you should wait until you are done having children before having a tummy tuck and having the diastasis repaired. The outcome of the Lipo will be limited by the bulging from the diastasis. So long as you understand this, you can proceed with surgery. One can expect the diastasis to worsen if you have more children and that the abdominoplasty will be in your future. Physical therapy may strengthen the pelvic floor but will not improve the diastasis, which is a weakness between, rather then of, the muscles.
