Why am I having sharp pain in my upper abdomen, above the belly button with a fleur de lis abdominoplasty?

This is the 4th night in a row I’ve had sharp unbearable pains. I had my fleur de lis abdominoplasty 4 months ago and haven’t had too much of a problem other than swelling above my navel. Recently the pains first felt like contracting muscles but now I can identify them as sharp, striking, and prickling pain, along with an itch on the inside. Please help

Thanks for your inquiry, but without an exam it is hard to advise. The pain could be nerves waking up to a muscle tear, etc--Please see you surgeon to discuss.

I agree that this would require an in person evaluation. It likely is due to the sutures, but your plastic surgeon will need to look at you to best determine.

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your FDL symptoms.  Because it would be unusual to have these suddenly develop after nearly 4 months of recovery, I would see your surgeon for an in-person examination.  Most likely a common issue such as muscle spasming is the culprit but best to be evaluated and treated as appropriate.  Hope this helps.

Unbearable pain especially this far out from surgery needs to be evaluated by your surgeon.  It is not common to experience severe pain four months from your procedure.  Your surgeon can advise you after an examination.
