Late "allergic" reactions to filler/Botox, face has swelled up 5 times in a year. What could be the cause? (photos)

My face will swell up with no reason. Once it was probably from Botox on day 3 but others times the reaction comes months after. I have been getting Botox for over 5 years with no reaction before. Last filler in cheeks was 6/2021. Juvaderm. I got ct scan of face and no sinus or teeth infections. No idea if it is an reaction to the Covid vaccine. I'm just frustrated because I don't know the cause. But it feels like filler is having a reaction. Photo is from yesterday. Last Botox 7/22

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you've been having with facial swelling.  Though it's not possible to know for sure with the given information, it may be related to the combination of the Covid vaccine and the filler treatment.  We currently recommend that patients wait two weeks between the vaccine and filler treatments due to inflammation concerns.  I encourage you to visit with your injector and primary care physician for treatment.

This is a potential delayed hypersensitivity reaction to hyaluronic acid fillers. The best solution is to avoid any further exposure to hyaluronic acid fillers. Please see a board-eligible or board-certified plastic surgeon for potential hyaluronidase injection to dissolve the filler. This requires a full physical exam and evaluation in person to truly adequately evaluate and treat.

It could be the fillers. If the issue keeps happening, you may want to dissolve all your filler. Manufacturers say they last at least 1-2 years but, recent studies have shown that fillers can last much more. If you only got Hyaluronic acid based fillers, there is an enzyme that can dissolve it.

Sorry for the reaction and intermittent facial swelling. Most likely a reaction to Covid/Covid vaccines or both. But should rule out other possible causes as Lymphoma. Best to internist or hematologist ASAP.

Sorry to see you are experiencing facial swelling. Some thoughts that come to mind that swelling could be related to 1. vaccine 2. air travel 3. post dental work 4. your body fighting a mild infection. I am more concerned about your history of filler than botox. You may consider keeping track of the history of brands that you have purchased. Have you tried an OTC antihistamine such as Reactine?
