Static forehead lines - would Botox make any difference?

Question

I have 3 static lines on my forehead. As I never frown (really), would toxin make any difference ? I haven’t frowned or raised my eyebrows intentionally since 1991. I trained myself not to. If toxin is indicated, how many units? I am a Caucasian male, with very fair skin.

Neuromodulators (such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau) and soft tissue fillers like Belotero can improve the appearance of the forehead by reducing lines, wrinkles and folds. Deeper lines and wrinkles need a combination approach with Botox, fillers, lasers, and microneedling/PRP. It can help prevent static lines from forming, so Botox may still be beneficial for your needs. There are also other treatments, like laser resurfacing, that can help target signs of aging like lines and wrinkles. Botulinum toxin type A (Botox, Dysport) is used to help smooth and prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The mechanism of action of this drug includes blocking neuromuscular action potentials, thereby limiting the ability of muscle movement. As we proceed through our day to day lives we tend to make various facial expressions by means of muscle movement in the face. Overtime, these repeated muscle movements can lead to the development of wrinkles commonly on the forehead, in between the eyebrows and around the eyes (crows feet). Botox and Dysport works better to improve "wrinkles in motion" rather than wrinkles at rest. Depending on how deep your current wrinkles are, it may be unlikely that this medication will completely remove their appearance. Your provider will have to assess the degree of depth of the wrinkles. If you choose to have this treatment performed, it will help to decrease the incidence of new wrinkles forming and can also help to smooth superficial lines. Therefore, it is advised that patients should start getting this treatment before deep, set in wrinkles are visible. Other treatments are available, such as radiofrequency with microneedling, or other laser resurfacing treatments that are better at targeting and improving the appears of deep fine lines and wrinkles.

Your provider will have to assess the degree and strength of your muscle movement to determine how many units are indicated.

For most forehead lines Botox does a wonderful job of softening the look.  An in person examination by an experienced injector will determine if you are a good candidate.  The treatment is done in the office with the final results seen after 14 days.  The results will fade gradually over 3 to 4  months.

The subject line for the answer to the question, says it all.  If forehead muscular movement is playing no significant role, Botox cannot provide a significant benefit. When we have wrinkles, etched-in creases and lines at rest (static lines), filler is indicated to elevate and smooth the depressions. Make sure to consult an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist injector. Check out his/her before and after photos of forehead lines before agreeing to proceed, and best of luck.
